Hermann Bungalows

Styling Event in Palm Springs

The annual Coachella music festival that takes place in the Desert in Coachella Valley over two consecutive weekends in April (think the equivalent to Glastonbury in England!) has just taken place.  While I have gone there only for the music in previous years since relocating to Los Angeles (a quick a 2-3 hour drive away), this year I was there for an additional event that Studio Haslund was asked to be involved in.  A full circle moment!
This year I had the pleasure of being invited to provide the floristry design, and style the space for the Louis Roederer Activation Event at the Hermann Bungalows – the architectural oasis that was designed as part of the L’Horizon Hotel, a Luxury Boutique resort in Palm Springs.
Choosing signature Danish glassware, I selected the vases based on the brand colours and presentation of the event, and chose flowers and Californian plants to bring in the elements of the desert. I styled the L’Horizon focused side of the location to have wistful European flowers, whilst keeping the Louis Roederer promotional area focused on the Cristal pouring and Champagne house.
L’Horizon Hotel is an iconic, mid-century modern architectural gem with a rich Hollywood history. Built in 1952 by renowned architect William F. Cody, L’Horizon was a favorite celebrity destination spot in the 50s and 60s, and it attracted guests of Hollywood’s golden era including Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable and several U.S. Presidents. William Francis Cody (1916 – 1978) was an influential desert modern architect working in Palm Springs during the peak of the Modern Architecture Movement
I have always loved working with styling flowers in the beautiful vessels by the Danish brands I collaborate with, as well as my LA pop up exhibitions that I began last year (combining Danish Design & Art by Nina K Ekman with floral arrangements). To be asked to do this for a beautiful event in the stunning mid century design back drop was magic!
