For me, lighting is more than just practical; it embodies what the Danes call ‘hygge’ – a word without translation but closest to coziness. Growing up between Danish and British cultures, I’ve always been drawn to how light transforms space, not just brightening a room, but creating warmth, connection, and a sense of belonging. Lighting isn’t just an accessory; it’s a defining feature of Scandinavian living. It can make or break the way an interior looks and feels, similar to wearing the wrong shoes with a great outfit!

Essential and sculptural, Danish lighting brings light and calm together.

I love working with the beautiful designs from my brand partners Louis Poulsen, New Works, and Audo Copenhagen. The rise of portable lighting means my clients are able to carry that perfect hygge light with them from room to room, or even outside. It makes lighting the home flexible and personal, while diffusing light and warmth wherever you are.

A design close to my heart is this folded paper table lamp from Le Klint – a 1943 established Danish lighting brand that pioneered Danish modernism through lighting by its architect founder Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint and family, and became hugely popular across Denmark for their ability to deliver beautiful, soft light. They bring a timelessness to any space. I have an original one that belonged to my late mother in her home in London. I love that it is now a family heirloom and reminder of my families history.
